It was here where Alexander the Great was born. Under King Philip and his son Alexander, Pella acquired its greatest strength. The famous mosaics from the 4th century B.C. and the ruins of luxurious villas prove the wealth of the city which early on had a very good water supply and sewage system.
Mosaics can be seen both in the archaeological site and in the museum, where ancient toys, pottery, coins and finds of the ancient agora and the cemeteries are displayed.
